Start with an intention

The easiest way to choose a first crystal bracelet is to decide what you would like it to hold for you. Crystal tradition groups stones by intention, and one clear intention makes a better first bracelet than a strand that tries to do everything.

Our crystal knowledge base lists every stone by intention, with the wrist it is traditionally worn on.

Or choose by birthstone or zodiac

If no single intention stands out, your birth month is a lovely place to begin. January’s garnet, February’s amethyst, March’s aquamarine and November’s citrine all make beautiful bead bracelets; see birthstones by month for the full calendar.

Western star signs have their own gems too: Pisces is paired with amethyst and aquamarine, Leo with onyx and peridot. In Chinese tradition, many people choose a stone for the year ahead. For 2026, the Year of the Fire Horse, our forecast pairs the Rooster with citrine, the Dog with tiger’s eye and the Goat with moonstone; the full list is in our Fire Horse crystal guide. Or try Your Stone, which reads a stone from your birth date.

Or simply choose by feel

Many crystal lovers say the stone chooses you. If you keep returning to one bracelet without quite knowing why, that pull is worth following. Look at a few strands in daylight, and notice which colour you would be happy to see on your wrist every morning.

This matters more than it sounds. A bracelet you love is a bracelet you wear, and a bracelet you wear is a daily reminder of whatever you have asked it to hold. When you cannot hold a bracelet in your hand, look closely and ask about anything you cannot see. On our live sales on Instagram and TikTok you can see pieces up close and ask questions as we go, and you can message us about any piece on WhatsApp.

Real stone, dyed stone or glass?

Natural crystal is never perfectly uniform. These signs help you tell a genuine stone from a dyed one or from glass:

  • Look for variation. Real stones differ slightly from bead to bead, with tiny inclusions, veils or shifts in colour. A strand in which every bead is identical, flawless and vividly coloured deserves a second look.
  • Check the drill holes. Dye collects in cracks and around the openings. Colour that is darker at the holes, or that runs along fine lines, is a sign of dyeing.
  • Look for bubbles. Small round bubbles and swirl marks are typical of glass, not crystal.
  • Know the usual imitations. “Cherry quartz” and goldstone are man-made glass. Howlite and magnesite are often dyed to imitate turquoise. Much of the citrine on the market is heat-treated amethyst; natural citrine tends to be a paler, softer yellow.
  • Question impossible colours. Quartz beads in bright blue or hot pink, and neon agate, are almost always dyed.
  • Treat touch as a hint, not proof. Quartz usually feels cool at first and warms slowly on the skin, while glass warms faster. It is a traditional test, but not a reliable one on its own.

Treatment is not always a problem, since many stones are routinely heated or stabilised, but you should know what you are buying. A good seller will tell you the stone’s name and whether it has been treated when you ask.

Getting the fit right

A crystal bracelet should sit comfortably around the wrist bone: loose enough to move, snug enough not to slip over your hand. To measure your wrist:

  1. Wrap a soft tape measure, or a strip of paper, around your wrist just below the wrist bone.
  2. Keep it snug but not tight. With paper, mark where it overlaps, then lay it flat against a ruler.
  3. Measure twice, ideally later in the day, when wrists tend to be slightly fuller, especially in Singapore’s heat.

Bead bracelets are usually made a little larger than the wrist itself, and bigger beads need more room because they take up space on the inside of the circle. Rather than guess, send your measurement to us on WhatsApp and we will talk sizing through with you before you order.

Put an elastic bracelet on by rolling it over your hand rather than stretching it wide, and take it off the same way. That one habit adds a great deal to its life.

A few questions before you buy

  • Will you wear it every day? Hard stones such as quartz, amethyst and tiger’s eye, around 7 on the Mohs scale, handle daily life best. Softer stones such as malachite and fluorite suit occasional wear.
  • Which wrist? Receiving stones go on the left, protective ones on the right; our guide to which wrist to wear a crystal bracelet on explains why.
  • Is it a gift? Rose quartz, amethyst and a birthstone are the safest choices; see our guide to meaningful crystal gifts.
  • One stone or a mix? A single-stone strand keeps one clear intention. A mix, such as citrine with pink quartz, or a chakra strand with one stone for each of the seven energy centres, combines several.

FAQ

Good questions

What is the best crystal bracelet for beginners?

Rose quartz, amethyst and clear quartz are the classic first choices: hard enough for everyday wear, easy to care for and gentle in intention. Your birthstone is another lovely place to start.

How can I tell if my crystal bracelet is real?

Look for natural variation between beads, tiny inclusions and even colour at the drill holes. Identical, vivid beads, dye pooling in cracks and round bubbles all suggest dyed stone or glass.

What size crystal bracelet should I get?

Measure your wrist just below the wrist bone with a soft tape or a strip of paper, and allow a little room so the bracelet can move. Send us the measurement on WhatsApp and we will help you choose.

Where can I buy a crystal bracelet in Singapore?

L’Claire sells its crystal bracelets during live sales on Instagram and TikTok (@lclaire.sg), where you can see each piece up close and ask questions; for anything else, message us on WhatsApp. Delivery takes 5 to 8 business days, with free shipping on qualifying orders.
